Characters in a scene

My artist friend Elizabeth Shea is brilliant at inserting stamped characters into a pre-made scene.  I just love the technique!  In the card above, Alice and the Cat both look like they belong in front of the bookstore! (Stamps from Oxford Impressions "Classic Alice Collection".) To see other examples of her skill, check out the art galleries to the left of the screen. In the "Fairy Art Gallery", she added one of our children images to a path. Below, Elizabeth skillfully inserted multiple images into a pre-existing postcard. I find it hard to pick out which images are stamps and what is postcard - and I designed the stamps!  Very cool technique, Elizabeth!

Haunted Art by Shelly Hickox

Haunted 4 x 4

I have a fondness for Chunky books and the 4 x 4 format. Here's a little page I whipped up in about 10 minutes.  I stamped the main character directly on 4 x 4 mat board using Black Staz-on ink.  I made a mask by stamping her again on a scrap piece of paper.  I cut the figure out of the scrap and used some temporary tape to adhere the copy to the original.  All other images were were stamped directly to the mat board. Since I use acrylic blocks, I could tell where the images would end up. Yellow and Orange Hydrus Watercolors applied with a wide paintbrush created the brilliantly colored background. I removed the mask and colored the dress with a marker. Then I over-stamped the little black bat from the "Trick or Treat" Collection and edged the panel with black acrylic paint. All other images used are from the new "Haunted" Collection by Oxford Impressions.

Alice or Suzanne?

It is me on my third Birthday!  Mrs. Beasley was my birthday present.  I think she is still in my parent's attic - minus the glasses.  (My baby brother made short work of them.)  The dress is from the Wonderland Collection by Oxford Impressions.  I can't claim the idea for the layered dress, though.  My artist friend Elizabeth Shea sent me a beautiful wall hanging with multiple versions of the dress made with patterned paper and tiny buttons. Thanks for the idea, Elizabeth!  I enjoyed playing paperdolls with myself!  If you have the Wonderland Collection and want to make this ATC, choose a picture of yourself that is approximately 3.5 inches tall.
